After 25 years working in Information Technology, Zoe left the corporate world and began her artistic journey. She explored a variety of media, including pastel, oil, watercolor and acrylics. Pastel quickly became her passion, offering the vibrancy of pure pigment and the portability of a drawing medium. She has studied with many internationally-renowned artists, including Pastel Society of America signature members Margaret Dyer, Albert Handell, Bill Hosner, Terry Ludwig, Maggie Price, and Ann Templeton.
Zoe’s favorite subjects are landscapes, wildflowers, and animals. She is especially fond of the unique beauty of the Southern Appalachians, with their steep, time-worn slopes, pleasant pastures, and abundant creeks, lakes, and waterfalls. Much of Zoe’s work is done “en plein air”, where the ever-changing sights, sounds, and conditions can provide additional inspiration
Zoe is a member of the Southern Appalachian Artist Guild, Mountain Regional Arts & Crafts Guild, Appalachian Pastel Society, and the Southeastern Pastel Society. In 2008, Zoe founded Plein Air Painters of Southern Appalachia (PAPOSA), a group dedicated to painting outdoors in the region.
Zoe’s artwork has been featured on the Butternut Creek and Friends CD “Grass of Parnassus” and on note cards for United Community Bank and Crane Creek Vineyards. Her original pastel paintings can found be in galleries in Georgia, North Carolina, and Indiana.
